Light Showers
Finnish visual artist and industrial designer, Reima Honkasalo's, newest creation Light Showers ponders the visual signals of an object's
appearance. Must a shower look like a shower in order to be considered a shower – or is it possible for a lamp to look like a shower and
still be identified as a lamp? Is it possible to turn on a light from a showerknob or does a light switch have to look like a traditional
light switch?
In visual arts Honkasalo mainly constructs his work from recycled material. The same is true for his industrial design, where the raw
material used, is either recycled, recyclable or renewable.
Renewability has been taken into account in the design of the Light Showers lamp. Ecology is a main factor in the use of the lamp and the
chosen light source is a 1,5 W led-spotlight by Oversol, which uses only about 10% of the electricity a traditional electric bulb would
consume. In addition, the use of led light sources is justifiable on the basis of the length of operating life.
For a manufacturer of the lamp, Honkasalo wants a company that pays attention to the environmental sustainability of the materials and
manufacturing of the product.
